Alika's latest toy.....
You can't really tell ( unless you click on pic to make bigger) but he's wearing a balloon hat!!! He said a kid lost it in the water & he picked it up during his heat so it wouldn't blow away in the depths of the ocean....so all his pix from this point on turned out like this!!!
He's now talking to his friend Tony Moniz about doing a standup paddle race across Molokai. ( 32 miles I think). they make a team of two people and they each paddle ( STAND UP ONLY , no lying, kneeling..) for 20 or 30 min. and switch out with your partner who has been resting on a escort boat...He has made the trip in a 6 man canoe plenty times, but to stand up for 32 miles is HARSH!!! It's on...they have a year to practice!!!
Here you can see the balloon and his smile....he was just having a good time. He came in 1st Place in this heat...i guess not taking it soo seriously is the KEY!!

That is sooo amazing! I love the pics of Alika with the hat, what a eye catcher.
You'll have to measure the circumference of his arm now and before the big adventure. Keep us posted!

what great pics and he is way cool..i have never seen someone surf with a paddle..is that new?
Kathy-I will measure...this is no skip in the park. in a canoe, i can see crossing the channel..but on this board?! Last time he went to Molokai (IN A CANOE) he said he was about 5 feet away from what he "thought" was a baby whale...it was a HUGE TIGER SHARK!!!

Very kewl surf shots! Paddle surfing is really taking off once again after a long absence. Its amazing to look into the history of this ancient art of surf riding! I am hoping it willl get even more popular so the equipment price comes down. Laird Hamilton actually did this across the english channel to France then rode his bike to Paris. I believe Dave Kalama paddled on his surfboard from the Big Island to O'ahu or something crazy like that. These are awesome shots!
